The Medina County Courthouse will be closed Mondy, September 7th, 2026 for Labor Day.
Judge Dunn was born and raised in Medina, Ohio. His mother was a teacher, and his father was Medina’s first Parks & Recreation director. The Judge graduated from Miami University and the University of Akron School of Law. Before taking the bench, he maintained a distinguished private law practice for 22 years. During that time, Judge Dunn served as a Medina City Prosecutor and an Acting Judge of the Wadsworth Municipal Court.
The Judge’s background, combined with his diverse knowledge base and wealth of legal experience, assists the court to craft solutions to difficult matters. During his administration the court has made proactive efforts to leverage the synergy of collaboration in the immediate community to address our needs by collaborating with mental health agencies, schools, law enforcement and agencies along with working with older adults and citizens with special needs.
In order to hold juveniles accountable and parents responsible for their children, the Juvenile Court has developed evidence-based programs. These programs confront delinquent acts, protect the community and re-direct juveniles back towards successful adulthood. Some of these include TI-180 diversion, a specialized Drug Court, truancy court and sex offender treatments. The Court is also an active supporter of the Take Control Juvenile Driving program and a sponsor of many Medina County Police Activity League activities.
The Judge was instrumental in bringing the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program to Medina County by working with the Child Advocacy Center, County Commissioners and MHRB board. CASA volunteers provide a voice for children who are court involved and who may have been placed in the State’s custody/foster care.
The Court engages in many additional services to protect the most vulnerable of our citizenry. Judge Dunn has continued the Volunteer Guardianship Program providing for those in need who lack family support. The Judge has repeatedly presented educational materials to groups such as the MCBDD and the families whom they serve.
Judge Dunn is currently the President-Elect of the Ohio Association of Probate Judges, a member of the Judicial College on behalf of the Ohio Juvenile Judge Association, a member of the American Judges Association, National Probate Judges Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and Medina County Bar Association. He is involved with the Law and Procedure Committees for both Probate and Juvenile Courts. Along with being a presenter at several Continuing Legal Education Seminars, he serves the Ohio Supreme Court on numerous section committees.
Dunn has also been involved in numerous community organizations including Rotary Club of Medina, Kiwanis, the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce, Northern Medina County and Wadsworth Chambers of Commerce, youth sports, is a consultant for Buckeye Boys State, and is a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth, Ohio. Judge Dunn is the proud father of two (2) adult children. He and his wife reside in Westfield Center, Ohio with their rescue dog, Lucy.
